Empowering Children
|
Empowering children is one of most valued and enjoyable tasks in Choi Kwang Do. No one claims that we'll make a three or four old great martial artists who can successfully defend themselves. However, CKD instructors work hard to give children a high level of self-confidence, something that will put them on the path that will teach them to be able to defend themselves successfully in the future if necessary. At a young age, the instructors work with students and lay the foundation for future success. Teaching the littlie ones to listen carefully, making them more aware of their surroundings to avoid dangerous situations, give them a better sense of balance and coordination, teaching them to follow directions, and to help them develop critical thinking skills that will help them be successful no matter what they do. Even when playing 'games' at the end of Choi Kwang Do classes, the games are designed to provide a specific goal and they don't realize that they are exercising as well as learning skills that will be useful in life. Children in CKD classes learn what the Pil Suhng Spirit means. Even if they don't succeed at a task, they will keep trying and to never give up. This is a trait that students, young or old, would benefit from by including in their lives. Students recite a promise at the beginning of each class that reinforces the rules that they should try to live by. |
Children's Promise My Promise To always do my best and never give up To obey my parents and teachers To tell the truth and honor my word To always be polite To never misuse what I learn in class |
